How I Work With Actors
I aim to train fellow actors as independent creative artists with the goal of assisting actors who want to create, develop, and sustain their own work.
I don't believe in a singular methodology or approach. My own training and research have taken me across historical and contemporary approaches to acting along with voice, movement, music, psychology, philosophy, and martial arts. I bring that understanding and my own practice to work with actors. Eclecticism is a feature, not a bug, in the way creative artists think about their practice of art. What holds for one actor may actively get in the way of another. I want to help each student discover and enable them to unleash their creative abilities, not to impose a system.
I think of it as cross-training. The best actors I've seen and worked alongside are the ones who keep learning. They are always curious and hungry to discover and learn. They treat the craft like an athlete treats their body; curious, rigorous, always adding to the toolkit seeking opportunities to enhance, evolve and refine their skills and knowledge. That's the culture and the challenge I create in my coaching and classes.
